Bishop McDevitt Alumnus Brendan Burke had been the programming mentor for team 433, the Firebirds, from Mount Saint Joseph Academy.   He decided see if a team could be started at McDevitt.  Working mainly with the alumni association, contact was made with school President Sal DiNenna PHD in the fall of 2010.  Dr. DiNenna identified science teacher Matthew Jurkiewicz as the primary contact.  Matt and Sal followed team 433, the Firebirds, during the 2011 competition season, attending the Philadelphia regional and visiting the 433 shop.  Presentations were made to the Alumni Association during the spring of 2011. By May of 2011 the alumni association made a financial commitment and the team was founded.
