The team was at the Rockwell Automation Fair at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in center city Philadelphia on Wed Nov 7th.
This fair is the premier event for the automation industry where over 100 exhibitors showed the latest products and technology.
We represented FIRST FRC robotics and explained to the attendees all about Robotics, FIRST and the McDevitt team.
The
FIRST organization had a small scale field set up for us, complete with hoops
for shooting and bridges for balancing. We were privileged to share the
field with team 2539 from Palmyra, PA. Both teams gave demos of shooting and
balancing.
We had hundreds and hundreds of attendees stop by to see the robots.
Mentors
Jennifer, Katie, Dave from team 2539 and I spoke all day about the FRC program
while students Jess, Bill and students from 2539 drove the robots.
The 2 most frequent comments we heard where “I wish they had this
when I was in school” and “This was built by High School Students? No
way!!!”. (or words to that effect)
We finally drained all our batteries to zero and had to stop the demos, but we kept on explaining about the robots to all those who came by.
The students were given a tour of the exhibits by the nice folks from Rockwell where they learned about some of the cool careers available in the area of science and technology.
Thanks to FIRST Philadelphia and Rockwell for allowing us to participate in this event. |
